The first live-action adaptation of the ’70s Japanese anime Voltes V, Voltes V: Legacy, is slated to debut on GMA Network as part of its prime-time lineup on May 8.

The series follows brothers Steve, Big Bert and Little Jon and their friends Jamie and Mark as they fight the evil Boazanian forces, who plan to invade Earth and launch their beasts all over the world.

The series is headlined by Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Matt Lozano, Radson Flores and Raphael Landicho. Additional cast members are Dennis Trillo, Max Collins, Carla Abellana, Gabby Eigenmann, Albert Martinez, Martin del Rosario, Liezel Lopez, Epy Quizon and Carlo Gonzalez, among many others. Julie Anne San Jose sings the official Japanese theme song.

Voltes V: Legacy is produced by GMA Network in partnership with Toei Company and Telesuccess Productions. Local animators from GMA’s post video graphics and audio team and Riot Inc. handled the program’s CGI and visual effects.

“We’re all fans of Hollywood movies with high quality and graphics, and Voltes V: Legacy is like that,” Ortega said. “Except the fact that it’s made entirely in the Philippines. It’s something to be proud of and curious about. At the same time, it’s a story of our age.”

Director Mark Reyes said, “It was a long, complex, pandemic-stricken challenge for everyone involved. But I can proudly say that the whole team succeeded with a 100-percent Pinoy-made production that will entertain audiences not only locally, but also globally.”
