Blending sci-fi and fantasy, Camelot is a new drama series in the works between Two Chairs Productions and virtual production pioneer Dimension Studio.

Created by Christian Camargo (The Hurt Locker, Dexter), the co-pro sees the two companies pooling financial, creative and technical resources to create a production-ready series package, with virtual production at the core of the show’s model. Two Chairs and Dimension plan to approach distributors with the project this fall.

Peter Resnick, partner and co-founder of Two Chairs, is executive producing alongside Steve Jelley, co-CEO of Dimension Studio, and Camargo. “When Christian approached me with the idea for Camelot I was blown away by how exciting it was,” Resnick said. “But there was an immediate problem—how do we execute such an epic, studio-level show at an independently financed budget? That’s when we started looking more closely at virtual production. It can give you a cinematic scale—especially in our fantasy/sci-fi world—on a level that’s just not been previously possible for independently made television. That led us to Dimension Studio, and Steve and his team brought enthusiasm and new ideas to the project that just completely opened our eyes to what can be achieved. The co-production idea emerged as an opportunity to do something different—let’s embed our team with Dimension and shape the show for virtual production. Of course, there will still be a lot of practical filming, and there needs to be, but always done with our work on the VP stage in mind.”

Jelley added, “We’ve seen a real increase in filmmakers who want to work with virtual production at an early stage in the development of their work. That includes everything from general thoughts on the style of environments, to very specific methodology questions. Just as we were wondering how to formalize the development process, Christian and Peter came on our radar. We loved the pilot script, and the team were so open-minded about how they wanted to create the show with us, we quickly realized this was something we had to jump on. It’s a huge opportunity for our teams to be directly involved in the development of a show at the earliest stages, working with the screenwriters to craft a television series. It’s been done at various informal levels before, but certainly not on this scale and not with such a clear plan to create a television show package that we can take out to distributors together. We genuinely believe we can hit a price point for this style of show that will change the landscape of high-end television production.”
