Topic and Israel’s yes Studios have signed their first-ever deal, which gives the streamer the exclusive U.S. and Canadian streaming rights for Embezzlement.

The series is based on the real story of Eti Alon, an employee at a family-owned bank that embezzled its clients’ entire savings and capital. In 2002, Alon quietly entered a police station and, upon giving her confession, unraveled a case that changed Israeli society.

Investigators discovered that money stolen from the bank was siphoned to illicit casinos run by local organized crime groups, which then used it to buy sophisticated arms and advanced ammunition, fueling internal wars and giving rise to a new generation of young crime families.

Embezzlement was created and directed by Yotam Guendelman and co-written with Shira Porat. MoviePlus Productions and yes TV produced the seven-episode series. It is slated to debut on Topic in early 2023.

Embezzlement is a great addition to Topic’s elevated crime and suspense catalog, curated from around the world,” said Ryan Chanatry, general manager of Topic. “Based on a breathtaking true-crime story, this series is made all the more enthralling through such award-winning performances. We’re thrilled to make our first deal with yes Studios and bring this story to our U.S. and Canadian viewers.”

Embezzlement is one of those stories that are almost impossible to believe actually happened in real life,” added Sharon Levi, managing director of yes Studios. “It triggers the question of, how far are you willing to go for your own family? We are excited to be collaborating with Topic on this series and look forward to bringing it to the North American viewers.”
