Season two of Jimmy McGovern’s prison drama Time is slated to premiere on BritBox on March 27.

Starring Tamara Lawrence (No Offense), Jodie Whitaker (Doctor Who) and Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), the new season is told through the lens of three inmates from three very different backgrounds. Even with the threat of violence within the prison, they discover an unexpected sense of community and understanding.

Season two also stars Siobhan Finneran (Downton Abbey).

McGovern, co-creator of FOX’s Accused, returned for the second season as writer and executive producer. Helen Black (Grantchester) joined as co-writer. The original BAFTA-winning season of Time, starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham, is currently available on BritBox.

“I think what Time series one did, [and] hopefully what this series is doing, is giving a face to the statistics or the problems,” Whitaker said. “You can say there’s a wrong or a right, there’s a baddie and a goodie, or there’s a situation where there’s a bad decision and a good decision, but we all live in a gray area.”
