The Rook’s Emma Greenwell, Joely Richardson & Olivia Munn

Emma Greenwell, Joely Richardson and Olivia Munn sat down with TV Drama to talk about what appealed to them about signing on for The Rook and weigh in on how the show crosses genres to deliver something truly unique.

Based on Daniel O’Malley’s novel of the same name, The Rook follows the story of Myfanwy Thomas, who wakes up in London in a circle of dead bodies with no memory of who she is or how she got there. She comes to learn that she’s a high-ranking official in the Checquy, Britain’s secret service for people with paranormal abilities. As the series unfolds, she will have to navigate the dangerous and complex world of the agency to uncover who wiped her memory and why she is a target.

Greenwell (True Blood, Shameless) stars as Myfanwy, a “Rook” in the Checquy. Richardson (Nip/Tuck, The Tudors) plays Linda Farrier, Myfanwy’s mentor and ally who, as the head of the Checquy, is designated “King.” Munn (The Predator, The LEGO Ninjago Movie) plays Monica Reed, an agent from the U.S. Bureau of Variant Affairs (the American agency that mirrors the Checquy) who arrives in London to investigate the death of one of the victims—her former lover.

The Rook premieres on Starz on June 30. Lionsgate distributes the series.
