The Mediapro Studio Distribution Inks European Deals for Series

The Mediapro Studio Distribution has inked deals for its new series Quiet, The Head, Express and Chromosome 21 across Europe.

Quiet, an eight-episode thriller co-produced with 3Cat, has been picked up by Disney+ in Spain. The series is set in Barcelona under lockdown and follows the police investigation into a serial killer targeting the homeless.

The series stars David Verdaguer (Jokes & Cigarettes), Ángela Cervantes (La Maternal), and Àlex Brendemühl (Creatura) and is directed by Marta Pahissa (Rapa, Ser o no ser). It was created by Lluís Arcarazo.

The Head, meanwhile, has been acquired by CANAL+ and FilmBox Brands in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, HOT in Israel and PICKBOX in the Balkan Peninsula. Max will once again be the leading operator for its release in Spain, the U.S., Latin America and Portugal.

The Mediapro Studio’s major international franchise is produced in association with Hulu Japan and was created by Ran Tellem, director of international content at The Mediapro Studio. With Jorge Dorado as director, season three again stars John Lynch (Blue Lights, The Fall), Katharine O’Donnelly (Mary, Queen of Scots) and Olivia Morris (Hotel Portofino). Among those joining the cast is Clara Galle (Through My Window).

CANAL+ and FilmBox Brands also licensed a slew of other titles for a range of territories: Express and Chromosome 21. Express, the first fiction production from Lionsgate+ in Spanish, dropped on Netflix in June and will now air in the Netherlands. Chromosome 21, produced in Chile by Erik Barmack’s Wild Sheep Content in alliance with The Mediapro Studio, will air in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Netherlands.

Other deals made this year include several Johnson Production Group titles, whose rights are part of The Mediapro Studio Distribution’s portfolio, licensed to various operators in France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and the Balkan Peninsula. The Asian market has shown interest in various Woody Allen films produced by The Mediapro Studio, such as Midnight in Paris, acquired by Longride for Japan and NK Conents for South Korea. Also, Rifkin’s Festival and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger will air in China as part of an agreement reached with Sita Digital.
