Side Games, a drama series set in the world of football co-produced by The Mediapro Studio and DIRECTV, has premiered its second season.

Based on the novel El fútbol no es así by Javier Tebas, president of Spain’s La Liga de Fútbol Profesional, and Pedro Torrens, Side Games tackles real estate corruption, political intrigue, illegal gambling and organized crime. Centering on Leonés, a modest club recently promoted to the First Division, the series shows how the network mars the sporting essence of football.

Side Games premiered in Latin America on DIRECTV and in the U.S. via the Spectrum Originals platform.

For season two of Side Games, veteran filmmaker Daniel Calparsoro was back behind the camera. Abraham Sastre led the writers’ room, which also featured Germán Aparicio, Tom Fernández and Alejo Flah. Roberto Enríquez, Patricia Vico, Pedro Casablanc, Mariam Álvarez, María Molins, José Ángel Egido, Andrés Gertrudix, María de Nati and Joaquín Abad star.
