Netflix has slated the debut of The Åre Murders, based on Viveca Sten’s novels Hidden in Snow and Hidden in the Shadows, for February 6.

In the screen adaptation, police officer Hanna Ahlander moves to her sister’s vacation home in Åre after she is suspended from her job in Stockholm and dumped by her partner. When a woman goes missing on the night of Lucia, Hanna can’t help but get involved in the investigation.

With a rough family situation and an understaffed police station, local police officer Daniel Lindskog reluctantly accepts her help.

The main cast features Carla Sehn, Kardo Razzazi, Charlie Gustafsson, Francisco Sobrado, Amalia Holm, Frida Argento, Agnes Kittelsen, Jon Øigarden, Robin Stegmar, Olle Sarri, Samuel Astor and Moa Gammel.

Joakim Eliasson and Alain Darborg direct the series based on scripts from Karin Gidfors and Jimmy Lindgren. The directors of photography are Nea Asphäll (Hidden in Snow) and Benjam Orre (Hidden in the Shadows). Executive producers are Tim King, Susann Billberg-Rydholm and Sten, while Brita H Lundqvist serves as producer. SF Studios is the production company behind the show.

The Åre Murders means a lot to me, and I’m very excited that it’s now time for the TV series to see the light of day on a leading streaming service like Netflix!” Sten said. “Both as the author of the books and executive producer of the series, it’s hugely exciting to see the characters come to life through such talented actors. My dream, of course, is that the TV series will be just as popular and successful as the books have been both in Sweden and abroad.”
