LOS ANGELES: Televisa has ordered ten scripts of the sci-fi thriller The Seventh Day, which comes from Deadzone and Haven alum Scott Shepherd.

The Seventh Day marks Televisa’s second high-volume episode commitment to an English-language series slated to be shot in Mexico, following spy thriller Duality, starring Dougray Scott. Televisa USA’s Chris Philip will serve as an executive producer on both projects.

Televisa also acquired the rights to Shepherd’s post-apocalyptic Amazon serialized novel of the same name, with Shepherd and his The Seventh Day series writing/producing partner, Cindy McCreery, penning the scripts and serving as showrunners. Subsequent seasons will be based on future books written by Shepherd. Lloyd Segan of Piller/Segan Productions (The Dead Zone, Greek, Haven) will be an executive producer.

“Through masterful storytelling, Scott and Cindy are once again weaving gripping stories into compelling television,” said Philip, head of production and distribution for Televisa USA. “Their masterful tales fit perfectly with the wide array of sets and terrain that Televisa has to offer in Mexico, where we plan to shoot all of the series we greenlight with our pioneering production and distribution venture.”

Shepherd commented, “The story is centered [on] a new world with a line drawn firmly in the sand between good and evil, in which the characters are given a second chance to choose which side to throw down on by making emotional, grounded and relatable decisions.”
