NEW YORK: MTV is bringing back Sonar Entertainment’s The Shannara Chronicles for a second season.

The series is an adaptation of the international best-selling fantasy novel by Terry Brooks. The first season ranks as MTV’s top-rated new series this year. The show also ranks as the highest grossing digital download for a single season on MTV ever.

The Shannara Chronicles is co-produced by MTV, Sonar and Farah Films, with Sonar distributing internationally.

“MTV’s strong support of the show is extremely gratifying and exciting and it’s only a part of the broader global story,” said David Ellender, the president of global distribution and co-productions at Sonar Entertainment. “The Shannara Chronicles is a growing phenomenon—it is proving to be a hit with broadcasters and audiences wherever it airs throughout the world.”

“We’re thrilled to continue the momentum established in season one,” added Jenna Glazier, executive VP of television series at Sonar Entertainment. “Along with the ongoing support of MTV, the entire creative team is poised to raise the bar even higher in season two.”
