NEW YORK: Syfy has greenlit a pilot of the Superman prequel Krypton, from executive producer David S. Goyer and Warner Horizon Television.

The drama will be set two generations before the destruction of the legendary hero’s home planet. Krypton will follow Superman’s grandfather, whose House of El was ostracized and shamed, as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Goyer, known for his work on comics properties such as Man of Steel and The Dark Knight trilogy, will executive produce through his Phantom Four banner.

Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer/showrunner, with Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) set to direct and co-executive produce the pilot. Krypton will be produced by Warner Horizon Television and is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC Comics.

“Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe,” said Bill McGoldrick, the executive VP of scripted content at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”
