Sony AXN Germany has landed the soccer series The Window from ZDF Studios.

The ten-part series takes viewers into the complex off-field machinations of professional soccer and charts one summer in the life of a 17-year-old wunderkind. Sony AXN acquired the pay-TV and SVOD rights for German-speaking territories and is set to host the exclusive German premiere on May 25.

ZDF Studios also licensed the series to Vivacom (Bulgaria), TV4AB (Sweden), Deutsche Welle (Germany), MBC (Middle East), Keshet Broadcasting (Israel) and Vubiquity.

The Window is created and written by BAFTA- and Emmy-winning screenwriter James Payne (The Musketeers, Hooten & the Lady, Mr. Selfridge).

Marius Rocholl, VP of TV content strategy and acquisitions at Sony Pictures Entertainment, said: “James Payne has created a superb drama giving a fascinating insight into what goes on behind closed doors. With its gripping storyline, The Window isn’t just for football fans. And the timing couldn’t be better as we look to air the series this summer coinciding with the Women’s World Cup.”

Sebastian Krekeler, Director Drama at ZDF Studios, said: “With football being so popular all over the world, it’s not surprising that this drama has international appeal. I’m delighted that The Window, our first scripted co-production with Fuji Television, will be seen by audiences far and wide.”
