Sky has greenlit a drama on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) set to star.

Amadeus follows a young Mozart, who arrives in 18th-century Vienna no longer a child and determined to carve his own path. The series, written by Joe Barton (Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project), will reimagine Peter Shaffer’s stage play by the same name.

Amadeus is produced by Two Cities Television (part of STV Studios) in association with Sky Studios. Julian Farino (Giri/Haji) and Alice Seabright (Chloe, Sex Education) will serve as directors.

Production is expected to begin later this year. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international sales of the series.
