Sky Deutschland Commissions Original End-of-the-World Drama

UNTERFÖHRING: Sky has unveiled its new German original production, Eight Days, which counts down the final days of humanity.

The story, centered on a German family, takes place as a massive asteroid races toward Earth. Each of the eight episodes of the psychological drama represents one of the final days before it reaches the impact zone, which is in the middle of Europe. The series will be directed by Academy Award winner Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters), Philipp Leinemann (We Were Kings, Temple) and Michael Krummenacher (Wonderland).

Eight Days is slated to begin production midway through next year, with exclusive broadcasting on Sky in Germany and Austria planned for 2018. The series is being produced in collaboration with the Munich-based producer NEUESUPER.

Frank Jastfelder, the director of drama production at Sky Deutschland, said: “We were immediately excited about the concept for Eight Days because everyone immediately asked themselves the same question: How would I react in such a situation? In response to this question, Eight Days delivers emotional, always surprising and highly dramatic answers—and steers clear of all the Hollywood clichés.”

NEUESUPER’s Rafael Parente commented: “NEUESUPER is committed to new television. With Sky Deutschland, we have found the right broadcasting partner who shares our vision to produce a drama series on an international level in Germany.”
