UKTV has secured the exclusive U.K. broadcasting rights for Sister Boniface Mysteries, a Father Brown spin-off series, for its Drama channel.

Lorna Watson (Watson & Oliver), Max Brown (Downton Abbey), Jerry Iwu (Halal Daddy), Miranda Raison (MI-5) and Ami Metcalf (Allied) are set to star in the lighthearted murder mysteries series. Set in 1960s rural England, the detective drama follows the investigations of Sister Boniface of St Vincent’s Convent—a nun, moped rider, winemaker and part-time forensic scientist.

The character, brought to life by Watson, first appeared in the Father Brown episode “The Bride of Christ.”

Created by Jude Tindall (Father Brown) and produced by BBC Studios Drama Productions, the ten-episode series will also see a special appearance from Mark Williams, who plays Father Brown in the original series.

Sister Boniface Mysteries will air exclusively in the U.K. on UKTV’s free-to-air channel Drama and on-demand service UKTV Play in 2022.

Charlie Charalambous, global acquisitions manager for UKTV, said: “Sister Boniface Mysteries is a hugely exciting new series, and it’s a real privilege to bring it to the U.K. as one of our key acquisitions for next year.”

Emma Ayech, Drama channel director, added: “We know our viewers love the best that British drama has to offer, so we’re thrilled that we can offer them a brand-new series from Jude Tindall that they won’t find anywhere else on British television.”

Executive producer Will Trotter added: “Sister Boniface is an eccentric, charming, witty crime-solver with a forensic eye for detail. With the series set in the fabulous 1960s bucolic English countryside, it’s a family viewing treat.”
