The Apple TV+ series Silo has been selected to open the sixth season of the Canneseries festival.

The new dystopian series will be screened in the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. It will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on May 5.

Actress and executive producer Rebecca Ferguson, director and executive producer Morten Tyldum and screenwriter and executive producer Graham Yost are expected to attend.

Silo is the story of the last 10,000 people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built and any who try to find out face fatal consequences. Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer who seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.

The series is produced for Apple TV+ by AMC Studios and is based on the novels by Hugh Howey.

Albin Lewi, artistic director of Canneseries, said: “I can’t wait for the festival audience to discover this series about the absolute necessity of survival in a post-apocalyptic world. Behind the absolutely beautiful end-of-the-world images lies a reflection on resistance and class struggle. I am very proud to present Silo, which, both visually and intellectually, raises the series to the highest level.”
