NEW YORK: Showtime is planning to release the Twin Peaks prequel film Fire Walk With Me, directed by David Lynch, ahead of the series’ highly anticipated return later this year.

Fire Walk With Me is set before the original Twin Peaks, with a plot that chronicles the seven days leading up to the brutal murder of Laura Palmer. The film will be made available on the Showtime streaming service, Showtime Anytime and Showtime On Demand. The first two seasons of Twin Peaks are already available across these platforms, allowing subscribers to binge on the entire original series ahead of the May 21 debut of the new 18-part limited event.

Directed entirely by Lynch, the new Twin Peaks picks up 25 years after the inhabitants of a quaint town were stunned by the murder of their homecoming queen. The series returns May 21 at 9 p.m. with a two-part premiere. Immediately following the debut, Showtime subscribers can access the third and fourth parts exclusively on the streaming service, Showtime Anytime and Showtime On Demand. In its second week, Twin Peaks will air parts three and four back-to-back, again in a 9 p.m. slot.
