LOS ANGELES: The Ryan Phillippe-led drama Shooter has been given the green light for a second season by USA Network.

Shooter stars Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger, a highly-decorated veteran who is coaxed back into action to prevent a plot to kill the president. The series is based on Mark Wahlberg’s 2007 film of the same name, which was inspired by the best-selling novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter.

Wahlberg is among the executive producers on the drama, alongside Stephen Levinson, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and John Hlavin, who serves as showrunner. Shooter is from Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions.

“John Hlavin and the team behind Shooter have delivered a compelling action thriller that consistently engages a strong and loyal audience,” said NBCU Cable Entertainment President Chris McCumber. “We look forward to partnering once again with Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions as we follow Bob Lee into his next chapter.”
