Russia’s Kultura TV Takes On Star India’s Sita and Ram

The national Russian channel Kultura TV (Rossiya-K) has picked up Sita and Ram, Star India’s take on the Indian epic Ramayana.

The series centers on the romance between Ram and Sita. It also aims to teach higher values, featuring a story of the victory of good over evil. It holds a prime-time slot on Kultura TV with a daily run.

Russian actors dubbing the series have been trained on the exact pronunciation of the names of people and places. All Sanskrit mantras have been transcribed for the benefit of the Kultura TV audience.

“We are very happy that the Russian TV audience, who is very cultured and demanding will have the possibility to watch Sita and Ram,” said Christina Vlahova, CEO of Intellecta, a long-term syndication partner of Star India for Russia and the CIS. “This is the journey into the history and mythology of India with some very positive messages. And in Russia, there is this very positive attitude towards India with great memories from the times of Raj Kapoor. We do hope that with Sita and Ram we will give the Russian viewers a new possibility to rediscover India—both modern and ancient.”

“We are happy with the opportunity to initiate our audience into an unlimited source of Vedic wisdom,” said Anna Dobrovolskaya, the head of the feature film department at Kultura. “One can say that TV probably is unequal to such lofty matters. But usually, we start to tell children about the basic matters of good and evil in the early years through tales and myths. For those who are in the very beginning of their personal evolution, Sita and Ram will be just a tale. For others, it will become a step in the depths and heights of Vedic culture and encounter with its devoted guardians: the Hindu.”
