Production Begins on Netflix’s Second German Original

Production kicked off in Berlin this week on Netflix’s second German original series, Dogs of Berlin.

The ten-part series is directed by thriller specialist Christian Alvart. It centers on the murder of a Turkish-German football superstar that happens the night before a big international game in Berlin-Marzahn. The show is expected to launch to Netflix members around the world in 2018.

The series was created and written by Alvart and will be produced for Netflix by Syrreal Entertainment.

Dogs of Berlin is a cutting-edge crime drama series with thriller elements set in the different sub-worlds of modern Berlin,” said Erik Barmack, the VP of international original series. “It’s gripping, fast-paced, tense and emotional in a way that can only be realized at Netflix. Christian Alvart is a highly gifted storyteller whose concept for Dogs of Berlin excited us. We are looking forward to this collaboration with a unique group of creators and artists in front of and behind the camera. We are very happy to let the dogs off the leash with the start of production.”

Sigi Kamml of Syrreal Entertainment added, “Netflix gave us the freedom of creative storytelling and we developed a narrative that goes far beyond conventional crime thrillers. Dogs of Berlin digs deep into the swamp of organized crime in Berlin—and soon our heroes themselves are on the verge of drowning in it.”

Alvart remarked, “I am excited to bring this innovative story with complex and unique characters to life. Netflix is the perfect platform for Dogs of Berlin.”
