Norwegian Thriller The River Set for Walter Presents

DRG has landed its first round of deals for the Norwegian thriller The River, which will become available on Walter Presents in the U.S., U.K. and Australia.

Produced by Arctic Wonder for TV3 Norway, The River stars Espen Rebolo Bjerke (Mammon, Eyewitness) and Ingeborg Raustøl (Maniac) in a tale about an outsider battling against local residents willing to do anything to prevent the truth from coming out. The 8×1-hour series was also picked up by ZDF in Germany, Canal Plus in Poland and Yandex in Russia.

Walter Iuzzolino from Walter Presents commented: “The River is an outstanding new Nordic series—dark, elegant and utterly compelling and its setting on the border between Norway and Russia brings a powerful and unusual narrative edge to the story. This is an A-list piece which takes the Scandi genre to a new height, and we are delighted to have secured it across all of Walter Presents’ English-speaking territories: U.K., U.S. and Australia.”

DRG also sold the Viaplay original Veni, Vidi, Vici to SBS in Australia. The serial killer thriller Monster has now been licensed to YLE in Finland and Kino Polska in Poland.

“Premium Scandinavian drama has acted as a trailblazer, helping the penetration of foreign language drama into territories across the world,” said Elin Thomas, DRG’s executive VP of sales. “And, even though we now see great international dramas from all over, the appeal of Nordic drama holds strong as it consistently delivers beautiful productions with captivating stories and incredible locations. DRG is in the enviable position of representing some of the best Scandinavian drama of recent years, including award winners such as Nobel and Eyewitness and we are delighted to see classy new titles such as The River, Veni, Vidi, Vici and Monster begin to make their mark with international broadcasters and viewers.”
