Netflix On Board Dirk Gently as Co-Producer

LOS ANGELES: Netflix has come on board the BBC America series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency as a co-producer and will stream the show outside the U.S.

AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment are also producing the series, which is an adaptation of Douglas Adams’ (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who) novels centered on detective Dirk Gently. All eight episodes will launch in Netflix territories outside the U.S. in December. The series will debut on BBC America on October 22.

The show is written and executive produced by Max Landis (Chronicle, Bright), and executive produced by Robert Cooper (Stargate). It stars Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful, Endeavour), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Hannah Marks (The Amazing Spiderman, Weeds). The series is also produced by David Alpert (The Walking Dead) and Rick Jacobs (Wynonna Earp) for Circle of Confusion; David Ozer and Ted Adams for IDW Entertainment; and Arvind Ethan David and Zainir Aminullah for Ideate Media.
