MIPDrama Screenings Announces Inaugural Selection Jury

PARIS: The selection jury for the first-ever MIPDrama Screenings has been put in place, with six international creators and showrunners chosen to designate the 12 programs that will make up the showcase roster.

The selection jury includes Teresa Fernández-Valdés and Ramón Campos, showrunners for such hits as The Refugees, Velvet and Gran Hotel; Chris Long, director and executive producer of The Americans and The Mentalist; Sarah Phelps, writer and executive producer for And Then There Were None, whose credits also include Casual Vacancy and Great Expectations; Søren Sveistrup, creator and writer of Forbrydelsen/The Killing; and Anna Winger, writer and co-creator of Deutschland 83.

MIPDrama Screenings is a new day-long accelerator, showcasing world premieres of the best scripted content to drama buyers attending MIPTV 2016. The selection jury will designate the 12 programs that make up the MIPDrama Screenings Official Selection. The programs will be exclusively previewed during this invitation-only drama screenings showcase. The day-long event will culminate with the MIPDrama Screenings Buyers’ Choice Award 2016, which will be presented by the international selection jury.

Winger commented, “It’s such an exciting time for international television, both as a writer and as a viewer. Suddenly, we have the opportunity to experience a world of drama, at home on the sofa. I am so looking forward to being on this jury, and to watching and discussing original series from around the globe.”

Laurine Garaude, the director of Reed MIDEM’s television division, added, “This initiative, designed to showcase the latest content ahead of the main MIPTV market, reflects the surge in international dramas debuting in Cannes. We are very excited about taking our screenings to a new level and thrilled to welcome such an amazing selection jury.”
