The K-drama Lovers of the Red Sky is slated to join the Asian content streaming service Rakuten Viki on August 30.

Based on the novel Hong Chun Gi by South Korean author Jung Eun Gwol, Lovers of the Red Sky is a fantasy-romance story set during the Joseon era and loosely based on the true story of the painter Hong Cheon-Ki, played by Kim Yoo-Jung. Ahn Hyo-Seop also stars.

Cheon-Ki is chosen as the first female painter of the Dohwaseo, also known as the Korean Royal Academy of Painting. When she meets Ha Ram (Hyo-Seop), an officer at the Seowoongwan who reads the stars, her terrible fate and star-crossed love with him begin to unravel.

Other K-dramas that have debuted on the service in recent months include True Beauty and Doom at Your Service.

Sarah Kim, senior VP of content at Rakuten Viki, said: “We are thrilled to give Lovers of the Red Sky a streaming home on Rakuten Viki starting this August. Full of romance, fantasy and drama, we know that viewers will find this series as binge-able as many of the other K-drama hits within our library.”
