BURBANK: At MIPCOM, Legendary Television Distribution is slated to showcase the new drama series The Looming Tower, based on the nonfiction book by Lawrence Wright about 9/11 and the secret war between the FBI and the CIA.

The Looming Tower chronicles the rising threat of Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, and how the rivalry between the FBI and the CIA may have inadvertently set the stage for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the U.S. and the country’s subsequent war in Iraq. The 10-episode first season has been ordered straight to series by Hulu, where it will debut in 2017.

The Looming Tower is executive produced by Wright, Dan Futterman (Foxcatcher, Capote) and Alex Gibney (Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, Taxi to the Dark Side). It is a Legendary Television production for Hulu in the U.S. Legendary Television Distribution will sell all seasons of the show worldwide for all forms of distribution.

“We are very proud and honored to distribute a series like The Looming Tower with such award-winning auspices and an important message to impart,” said Michael Grindon, the president of worldwide distribution at Legendary Television & Digital Media. “Platforms everywhere are intrigued by this dramatic reenactment of real-life events that shocked the world, which Dan Futterman and Alex Gibney will bring to screens based on Lawrence Wright’s gripping best seller, The Looming Tower, Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.”

Grindon added: “The Looming Tower‘s creative team, along with Legendary Television, has the perspective and experience to bring to life this powerful and suspenseful story.”
