Joyn Picks Up Turkish Drama Wounded Birds

Eccho Rights has signed a deal with ProSiebenSat.1’s Joyn for Wounded Birds, marking the first time a Turkish daily drama has been licensed in Germany.

Wounded Birds follows a young woman named Meryem who spends five years raising her “little brother” Ömer to give him a decent life after he was given to Meryem’s low-life father, who intended to sell him. Unbeknownst to them, Ömer is actually the son of an influential industrialist and was kidnapped in a power struggle.

The drama is produced by Stellar Yapım. It stars Gizem Arikan, Emre Mete Sönmez and Ali Yasin Özegemen.

Through the deal with Eccho Rights, Wounded Birds is available on Joyn in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in Turkish with German subtitles.

“The potential for Turkish drama in Germany has always been there, but typically, the huge diaspora has found other means to consume Turkish content,” said Herbert L. Kloiber, CEO of Eccho Rights. “We are delighted that Joyn has opened the door to local licensing of Turkish series, which have found huge success wherever they have aired elsewhere in Western Europe.”
