John Wick TV Adaptation in Development

Starz and Lionsgate are developing a TV series based on the John Wick film franchise called The Continental.

Set in the John Wick universe, it will focus on the Continental Hotel, a refuge for assassins. The thriller is being written by Chris Collins, who will serve as showrunner, with key members of the team behind the film set to executive produce, including Basil Iwanyk, Chad Stahelski, Derek Kolstad, David Leitch and Keanu Reeves. The John Wick films have grossed almost $300 million at the box office worldwide.

Chris Albrecht, president and CEO of Starz, noted, “This series is truly unlike anything else on TV. The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world.”

Lionsgate will hold all international and domestic distribution and home entertainment rights to the series.

Starz announced April 8 as the launch date for the new limited series Howards End, and it has set May 6 as the premiere date for Vida, a half-hour drama about two Mexican-American sisters, and Sweetbitter, set against the backdrop of the New York City restaurant scene.
