Jack Lowden Joins Apple TV+’s Berlin Noir Series

Apple TV+ has cast Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Dunkirk) in the lead role of its new untitled drama based on Metropolis, part of Philip Kerr’s best-selling Berlin Noir book series.

The TV adaptation will follow detective Bernie Gunther’s origin story in 1928. As a police officer newly promoted to the elite Berlin Murder Squad, he is tasked with investigating what seems to be a serial killer targeting victims on the fringes of society.

Peter Straughan (Conclave; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; Wolf Hall) is adapting the book for the screen. Tom Shankland (The Leopard, SAS: Rogue Heroes, The Serpent, House of Guinness) is on board to direct. The series is being produced by Bad Wolf and PlayTone.

Executive producers are Jane Tranter, Dan McCulloch and Ryan Rasmussen for Bad Wolf; Straughan, Shankland; and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for PlayTone.

Kerr penned 14 Bernie Gunther novels and finished Metropolis shortly before he passed away in 2018.
