Kugel, the prequel to Shtisel, is slated to premiere exclusively on IZZY across more than 110 nations on February 28.
The new series centers on Libi’s life years before meeting Akiva. At 22, she lives in Belgium with her father, a jewelry dealer who isn’t afraid to bend the rules to make a sale. When his wife gets tired of his swindling and requests a divorce, their family life is thrown into disarray.
While her father spends his days trying to save his marriage and achieve his dream of being a mogul, he spends his nights courting a recently widowed woman who inherited a restaurant. Libi, meanwhile, is 22 and has yet to find a suitable match for herself, throwing all her energy toward becoming a successful writer. A chance encounter with an orthodox man on the Antwerp tram throws a wrench in her plans.
IZZY will launch the series in 12 different languages, including English, Hebrew, Yiddish, French, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic and Portuguese.
Kugel is written by Yehonatan Indursky, co-creator and writer of Shtisel. It is directed by Erez Kav-El. It is produced by Fremantle, Abot Hameiri (a Fremantle company) and Menuetto Film. Executive Producers are Dikla Barkai, Guy Hameiri and Eitan Abot for Abot Hameiri; Hattie Burles, Olivia Sleiter and Hilary Martin for Fremantle; Jay Ruderman for Boston Rose; and Dganit Atias Gigi and Uzi Karin for YES.
“We are thrilled to bring Kugel exclusively to IZZY subscribers across the globe starting February 28, a series that we know millions of Shtisel fans have been waiting years to watch,” said Nati Dinnar, co-founder and CEO of IZZY. “After we announced Kugel was coming only to IZZY in 2025, we have seen record numbers of subscribers signing up for our platform from nations all over the world.
