SILVER SPRING: Investigation Discovery (ID) has greenlit another scripted movie, Final Vision, based on the infamous Jeffrey MacDonald murders.

The project marks the first of a five-part true-crime scripted movie deal between ID and Lincoln Square Productions. Final Vision will star Scott Foley (Scandal) as Jeffrey MacDonald and Dave Annable (Heartbeat, Brothers & Sisters) as author Joe McGinniss. Production will begin in early December, with a premiere planned for 2017.

The true-crime drama will recount the story of Jeffrey MacDonald, a handsome, Ivy League-educated Green Beret Army Doctor, who was convicted of brutally murdering his pregnant wife and two young daughters in the middle of the night. It is told through the eyes of best-selling author Joe McGinniss, who was approached by MacDonald and asked to write a book about his personal nightmare as he was about to go to trial.

“The story of Jeffrey MacDonald proves the old adage that truth is often stranger than fiction,” said Henry Schleiff, the group president of Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and Destination America. “The MacDonald murders took place more than 30 years ago, and yet the ‘did he or didn’t he’ story still resonates today as a mystifying study of human nature. True crime has never been more popular than it is now, and we are thrilled that through our partnership with Lincoln Square Productions, we are cementing ID’s place as the home for powerful true-crime storytelling.”

Morgan Hertzan, the senior VP of Lincoln Square Productions, added: “The terrific team at ID has tapped into an insatiable appetite for real mystery and suspense. We’re proud to be their partners for Final Vision and the movies to come. The twists and turns in this drama are a perfect match for America’s fascination with true-crime stories. The cast, led by the very talented Scott Foley, tell a riveting story that has only become more mysterious with time.”
