LONDON: IMG will be representing the international rights for BBC America’s new original scripted series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, debuting this fall.

The eight-episode series is based on the comic novels of the same name by Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy). It is a co-production between AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment with Circle of Confusion producing. The show is written by Max Landis (Chronicle) and Robert Cooper (Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe) is set as the series showrunner. Oscar-winning director Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Justified, Masters of Sex) will direct the series’ first two episodes.

Dirk Gently is a comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd, as they find their way through one big mystery a season.

WME IMG Partner Chris Rice said, “This is one of the most original and distinctive series we have seen in a while, based on iconic IP and with an incredible vision from Max Landis, Robert Cooper and Dean Parisot—we couldn’t be more pleased to bring this to a global marketplace.”

“This is an important series of distinction for our growing AMC Studios business and we are pleased to have its international sales in the hands of an experienced advocate like IMG,” said Rick Olshansky and Stefan Reinhardt, co-heads of AMC Studios.

Arvind Ethan David, head of Ideate USA, added, “Dirk Gently isn’t a typical television show. So we are delighted to be working with IMG, which isn’t a typical sales partner. With them, we will bring Douglas Adams’ extraordinary character to audiences from London to Timbuktu.”

“IMG brings the right balance of experience, energy, and enthusiasm to help introduce Dirk Gently to a global audience,” said David Ozer, president of IDW Entertainment.
