The HBO Max original crime drama series Tokyo Vice, from Endeavor Content and WOWOW, is slated to premiere on April 7.

Loosely inspired by American journalist Jake Adelstein’s firsthand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, the series captures his descent into the underbelly of Tokyo in the late ’90s, when no one is truly who they seem.

Ansel Elgort stars as Adelstein, alongside Ken Watanabe, Rinko Kikuchi, Rachel Keller, Ella Rumpf, Hideaki Ito, Show Kasamatsu and Tomohisa Yamashita.

Tony Award-winning playwright J.T. Rogers created and wrote the series, as well as executive produced alongside director Michael Mann, Alan Poul, Adelstein, Elgort, Watanabe, Emily Gerson Saines, Brad Kane, Destin Daniel Cretton, Kayo Washio and John Lesher.

The first three episodes will premiere on HBO Max on April 7, followed by two episodes every Thursday. In Japan, WOWOW will debut the first episode on April 7, with subsequent episodes recurring every Sunday evening beginning April 24.
