HBO Europe has secured a deal to exclusively license its drama Patria to Canal+ in France ahead of the series premiere later this year.

Set in the Spanish Basque Country, Patria tells a story through the eyes of two families divided by violence and political struggle over the course of three decades. Created and written by Aitor Gabilondo and directed by Felix Viscarret and Óscar Pedraza, the series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Fernando Aramburu.

Patria will be made available in HBO Europe’s 21 territories on September 27. In over 40 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, the series will be broadcast on HBO and will be available on HBO GO from September 27. In the U.S., the series will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max starting on September 27, and on HBO Latino beginning on September 30.

Isabelle Mitsch, senior VP of business development for HBO Europe, said: “We are pleased that HBO Europe’s Patria has found a home on Canal+, so that French audiences will be able to see this moving drama, which has already cemented itself as one of this year’s must-see shows.”
