Masterpiece and ITV have greenlit a fifth season of Grantchester ahead of the season four premiere in the U.S.

Season five will pick up in Cambridge in 1957, a year after the current fourth season when Prime Minister Harold MacMillan told the British people that they had “never had it so good.” The fourth season aired on ITV in January, ranking number one in its slot, and it debuts on Masterpiece on PBS in the U.S. this weekend.

A co-production between Kudos, part of Endemol Shine UK, and Masterpiece for ITV, Grantchester is distributed by Endemol Shine International and has sold across 176 countries.

Kudos Executive Producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd said: “We are very excited that Grantchester is returning for a fifth series. The audience has taken the pairing of Robson Green and Tom Brittney to their hearts and we are delighted to be able to continue the story of Geordie and Will with Masterpiece and ITV. ”
