Granite Harbour is set to return for a second season on BBC Scotland, BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The series follows the story of Davis Lindo (Romario Simpson), who arrived in Aberdeen after leaving the Royal Military Police and now investigates crimes alongside Lara ‘Bart’ Bartlett (Hannah Donaldson). The first season of Granite Harbour closed out 2022 with 7.6 million streams on BBC iPlayer.

Written by River City alums Rob Fraser and Ciara Conway and award-winning screenwriter Jillian Mannion, the second season sees Lindo and Bart called to the harbor to investigate the origins of a new crime wave sweeping the city. Filming is planned to begin in late 2023 throughout Aberdeenshire and Glasgow, with Granite Harbour premiering first on the BBC Scotland channel, followed by BBC One and iPlayer in 2024.

Co-commissioned by Louise Thornton, head of multiplatform commissioning for BBC Scotland, and Dan McGolpin, director of BBC iPlayer and channels, the series is executive produced by Gavin Smith for BBC Scotland, Gaynor Holmes for BBC One and Colin McKeown (Anthony, Broken) for LA Productions.

The series joins a growing list of projects from Scotland, including ShetlandGuiltVigil and NightsleeperGranite Harbour is to be directed by Martin Smith (Seagulls) and Alex Browning (The Sunset Sleeps), produced by Donna Molloy (Compulsion, Anthony) and distributed by Eccho Rights.

“We’re delighted to have Granite Harbour return to BBC Scotland and can’t wait to see Aberdeen shining on-screen next year,” said Gavin Smith. “Lindo and Bart are a great double-act detective duo, and we’re excited to see what crime they come against this time around. The first series of Granite Harbour was an iPlayer success story for the northeast, and BBC Scotland will continue to develop and support scripted content representing different areas of Scotland.”

Simpson commented: “I’m delighted to be returning to Scotland to film season two of Granite Harbour. I’m looking forward to reuniting with the original cast and collaborating with some new creatives. It’s another opportunity to learn more about Aberdeen and take in some vital fresh air and open space.”

McKeown added: “Our love of Aberdeen continues, it’s central to our drama, and along with seeing our characters develop, I think series two of Granite Harbour will be something special.”

“Growing up as an aspiring young actress in the northeast of Scotland, I didn’t often see the landscapes I recognized as home or hear the accents of my friends and family on screen,” said Donaldson. “I’m very proud to be a small part of bringing Granite Harbour to life. Series two is an excellent opportunity for us to delve further into Bart and Lindo’s relationship and the dynamics of the team. I can’t wait to get my necktie on and get back to work with the North East Murder Investigation Team.”
