NEW YORK: Syfy has ordered a second season of The Expanse, a science-fiction series that takes place 200 years in the future, from Alcon Television Group.

The Expanse, which first debuted on Syfy last month, is based on the books penned by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. The show centers on the case of a missing woman that brings a detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system, exposing the greatest conspiracy in human history. The 13-episode new season is slated to begin airing on Syfy early next year.

Dave Howe, the president of Syfy and Chiller, commented: “The Expanse is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy’s promise of smart, provocative science-fiction entertainment. We can’t wait to see where the story takes us in season two.”
