Apple TV+ has ordered an adaptation of Mick Herron’s Down Cemetery Road, starring Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande; Sense and Sensibility) and Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Affair, His Dark Materials).

The story begins when a house explodes in an Oxford suburb and a little girl disappears in the aftermath. Her neighbor becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of a private investigator, and the two find themselves in the middle of a complex conspiracy that reveals that people long believed to be dead are still among the living.

Thompson is set to star as private investigator Zoë Boehm, while Wilson is to play Sarah Tucker, neighbor of the missing girl.

Morwenna Banks (Funny Woman, Miss You Already, Slow Horses) serves as lead writer, and Natalie Bailey (Audrey, Bay of Fires, Run) is attached to direct. Executive producers are Banks, Thompson, Herron and 60Forty Films’ Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash.

Down Cemetery Road joins the recently renewed espionage drama Slow Horses, based on Mick Herron’s Slough House books, on Apple TV+.

Down Cemetery Road has all the hallmarks of Mick Herron’s funny and acerbic writing, and I’m delighted we will be bringing it to life for Apple TV+ with such a stellar cast,” said Jay Hunt, creative director for Europe at Apple TV+. “Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson will make it an unmissable companion piece for Slow Horses on our service.”
