Elisa Viihde’s original series All the Sins will premiere its second season simultaneously in cinemas and on the Aitio streaming service this month.

The Finnish crime drama will open on October 22 in nationwide cinemas in Finland, as well as premiere on Elisa Viihde’s SVOD platform. This marks the first time in Finland that a streamer’s original series will also receive a theatrical debut.

This new six-part series sees showrunner Mika Ronkainen return to directing duties, and Ronkainen and Merja Aakko script writing. Season two is a prequel and takes the audience back to the year 1999.

Ani Korpela, head of Elisa’s content business, said: “We’re excited to try an entirely new concept by launching our original series as a day and date release in both national cinemas and on our streaming service. Our focus is on local drama and we want to tell unique and thought-provoking stories. Elisa Viihde is one of Finland’s most important producers of drama content—our ‘cultural footprint’ last year was ca. 40 million euros.”

Antti Toiviainen, the CEO of Aurora Studios, a newly founded company with a focus on developing, financing and distributing quality content in the Nordics and beyond, added: “We are beyond excited to launch the second season of All the Sins in cinemas together with the Elisa Viihde streaming service. Cinemas have struggled a great deal during these COVID-19 times, so it is notable that Elisa Viihde, known as the home of local original series, is bringing the second season to fans in cinemas as well. This also shows solidarity towards cinema owners and operators.”
