Eccho Rights has secured a deal with the Swedish public broadcaster SVT for the Turkish drama series The Red Room.

The Red Room is slated to make its debut on SVT2 later this spring, becoming the latest show to air in the broadcaster’s Turkish drama slot. SVT became the first Western European broadcaster to air a Turkish series back in 2013.

Produced by OGM Pictures for TV8 in Turkey, The Red Room is a psychological drama that plays out within a therapist’s office, with stories told through the eyes of the visiting patients. Victims of childhood abuse, domestic violence, sex crimes and more unusual plights learn to understand what informs their behavior, emotions and psychological state through their sessions with the core team of therapists.

Handan Özkubat, director of Turkish drama at Eccho Rights, said: “Though the subject matter in The Red Room sometimes asks difficult questions of the viewer, the series has really struck a chord at a time when people have more time than ever for introspection and looking after their mental health.”
