Dingdong Dantes has renewed his contract with GMA Network and is set to headline the Philippine adaptation of the Korean drama series Descendants of the Sun.

Dantes, who has been with GMA since he started his acting career 21 years ago, has previously starred in such drama series as The Other Mrs. Real, Bow of Justice and Color of My Blood. The actor met his wife, actress Marian Rivera, after starring alongside her in the Philippine remake of Marimar. Now, as a creative consultant and director for GMA Films, Dantes intends to do more work behind the camera. Details about the Descendants of the Sun remake are currently under wraps.

Referring to the remake, Dantes said: “More than [being] physically prepared, I’m emotionally, spiritually prepared since this is a very special project. I am really happy that GMA entrusted this to me.”

GMA Network President and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon added: “Dingdong is truly one of our home-grown talents. He embodies what GMA stands for: quality, professionalism, integrity and above all, heart.”
