Cineflix Rights has boarded the new Nordic crime drama Hildur, which Take Two Studios and Sagafilm have begun filming in Iceland, as worldwide distribution partner.

Based on Satu Rämö’s Hildur books, the first of which is known as The Clues in the Fjord in the U.K., the six-part TV series sees female detective Hildur fight against time to confront a serial killer in the fjords of Iceland while unraveling the mystery of her long-lost sisters, who disappeared 25 years prior when they were children.

Hildur is accompanied in the main investigation by Jakob, a Finnish trainee officer seeking a fresh start, and Florian, a German recruit mistakenly assigned to the team.

The international cast of the adaptation includes Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir (Húsó, Vigdís, Reykjavík 112), Lauri Tilkanen (Deadwind), Rick Okon (Das Boot, Tatort, Sisi 4), Nína Dögg Filipusardóttir (Prisoners, Valhalla Murders, Trapped), Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir (Black Sand, Darkness, Trapped, Women at War), Oddur Julíusson (The Minister, Descendants) and Oona Airola (Helsinki Syndrome, Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki).

The Hildur series is being produced by Take Two Studios for Nelonen Media’s streamer Ruutu and Sagafilm for Síminn, with financing provided by IPR.VC. It is directed by Tinna Hrafnsdóttir (Reykjavik 112, Vigdis, Descendants) and written by head writer Matti Laine (Bordertown, The Paradise) together with Margret Örnolfsdottir (Trapped, Prisoners). Executive producers are Sara Norberg and Eero Hietala for Take Two Studios; Kjartan Thor Thordarson and Tjörvi Thorsson for Sagafilm; and Timo Argillander, James Baker and Andrea Scarso for IPR.VC.

Hildur is the perfect example of the increasingly ‘Nordic Blue’ genre–a thriller with strong characters unraveling a complex case but combined with warmer themes of love and friendship, humor and mysticism, all set against the beautiful backdrop of one of the world’s most scenic locations,” said James Durie, head of scripted at Cineflix Rights. “We are thrilled to be working with Take Two Studios, Sagafilm and IPR.VC to bring Hildur’s story to life for her many fans around the world.”

“Readers around the world have fallen in love with Hildur and so have we at Take Two Studios,” commented executive producer Hietala. “Rooted in both Finnish and Icelandic culture, the series blends suspense, family drama and Nordic mysticism. We’re excited to bring Satu Rämö’s best-selling story to life for a global audience.”

Executive producer Thordarson added, “We at Sagafilm are excited to collaborate with Take Two Studios, IPR.VC, Cineflix Rights and our fantastic creative team to bring Satu Rämö’s beloved novels to the screen. Iceland has a deep storytelling tradition, and Hildur is a perfect blend of thrilling mystery, emotional depth and the raw beauty of our country.”

Rämö said, “Making a TV series based on the Hildur trilogy is the fulfillment of a great dream! The fact that the series will be filmed in Iceland feels very important, as the country’s nature and landscapes play a significant role in the books.”
