Channel 5 has greenlit the four-part prime-time thriller The Teacher II (w.t.) from Clapperboard.

The new series, part of an anthology collection that includes 2022’s The Teacher, follows an instructor, played by Kara Tointon (Too Good to Be True, Archie, Mr. Selfridge), who begins an impulsive affair with a fellow colleague that spirals out of control. When a student goes missing on a school trip, she blames herself for being too easily distracted and risks everything to right the wrongs she is responsible for.

In addition to Tointon, The Teacher II will star Will Mellor (Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, Broadchurch, Line of Duty) and Emmett J. Scanlan (Fool Me Once, Kin, Peaky Blinders, Argylle).

Michael Crompton (The Catch, The Holiday, Silent Witness, Code of a Killer) is penning the series with Rebecca Wojciechowski (Silent Witness, Death in Paradise, The Cuckoo). Dominic Leclerc (The A Word, Sex Education, Skins, The Teacher) is on board to direct. Producers include Emma Foley and Tamryn Reinecke (It Is In Us All, The Cuckoo, Maxine) for Pale Rebel Productions.

The Teacher II is being produced by Clapperboard in association with Newen Connect, which will distribute the series internationally.

“This is another gripping and exciting story evolved from The Teacher, which was a huge success for the channel,” said Sebastian Cardwell, deputy chief content officer for the U.K. at Paramount. “We have an incredibly talented cast on board, and I can’t wait for them to bring this story to life.”

Rachel Gesua, senior executive producer at Clapperboard, added, “We’re delighted to be creating the next installment of The Teacher, which is breaking new ground as Clapperboard’s first anthology collection. We’re honored to build on the success of the original series, which was such a huge hit with audiences across the U.K. with such a brilliant new cast and crew.”
