Paramount Global Content Distribution has licensed The Darkness, from two-time Oscar nominee Lasse Hallström, to Channel 4 in the U.K.
Based on the best-selling thriller series by Ragnar Jónasson, The Darkness stars Oscar nominee Lena Olin as Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir. In the series, Hermannsdóttir is investigating a shocking murder case while coming to terms with her own personal traumas. Faced with an impending early retirement and forced to take on a new partner, Hermannsdóttir is determined to find the killer, even if it means putting her own life in danger.
Shot in Iceland, The Darkness is a co-production from CBS Studios and Icelandic production company Truenorth for local Icelandic broadcaster Síminn.
Paramount Global Content Distribution distributes the series outside of Iceland. The series has been licensed to SkyShowtime in the Nordics, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Central and Eastern Europe, as well as SBS in Australia and Showcase in Canada.
