CBC has ordered more seasons of five hit dramas, including the long-running Murdoch Mysteries, which will be returning for a 19th season.

Season 19 of Murdoch Mysteries, set in early 1900s Toronto and following Detective William Murdoch as he uses innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s murders, will feature 21 hour-long episodes.

Murdoch Mysteries is produced by Shaftesbury in association with ITV Studios and UKTV and is distributed by Shaftesbury Sales Company and ITV Studios.

A 19th season has also been ordered for Heartland, the multigenerational family drama set in Alberta. Based on the best-selling books of the same name by Lauren Brooke, the series follows Amy Fleming and her family as they deal with the challenges of running the Heartland Ranch that has been with them for generations. It is produced by Dynamo Films and SEVEN24 Films.

CBC has commissioned two new seasons of the comedic procedural Wild Cards from Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Piller-Segan, in association with The CW. Created by Michael Konyves, the series follows the duo of a by-the-book sardonic cop and a clever con woman, who are paired together to solve crimes. Fifth Season handles international distribution of Wild Cards.

A second season of the police procedural Saint-Pierre has also been ordered, with Allan Hawco and Josephine Jobert returning as two seasoned officers who solve crimes in the French territory of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. Fifth Season also distributes this series, which is produced by Hawco Productions. It was created by Hawco, Robina Lord-Stafford and Perry Chafe.

The fifth renewal was given to Allegiance, another police procedural. Created by Anar Ali (Transplant), it address themes of identity and belonging, policing and politics and finding new paths to truth and justice for all. A third season will be produced by Lark Productions in association with Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

“With the renewal of these five hit dramas offering compelling characters, unique stories and a strong sense of place from different regions across Canada, CBC will continue to showcase homegrown storytelling that audiences can’t find anywhere else,” said Sally Catto, general manager of entertainment, factual and sports at CBC.
