Ava DuVernay Inks First-Look TV & Digital Pact with Harpo Films

Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films has signed filmmaker Ava DuVernay to a first-look deal for TV and digital media.

The Harpo deal marks an expanded creative partnership between DuVernay (13th, A Wrinkle in Timeand Winfrey. Additionally, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has renewed DuVernay’s original drama Queen Sugar, from Warner Horizon Scripted Television, for a third season. The series chronicles the lives and loves of the Bordelon siblings in Louisiana. It recently debuted its second season on OWN with its highest-rated episode ever in key adult and female demos.

“I’m so proud of Ava and her ability as a filmmaker to challenge the status quo and push for inclusiveness on screen and behind the camera,” said Winfrey, CEO of OWN and Harpo Films. “I love, love, love the work we have been able to create so far. I am looking forward to developing many more meaningful projects together.”
