Apple TV Lands Rights to Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere Books

Apple TV has landed the rights to adapt Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere books, which include the Mistborn series and The Stormlight Archive series, for television.

The deal gives Sanderson control over the screen translation, with the ability to write, produce, consult and have final approval. The adaptation of The Stormlight Archive series already has producers attached, with Blue Marble Pictures, run by Theresa Kang, to executive produce.

Sanderson’s Cosmere novels are set across different worlds and time periods, but the core of the series revolves around a being named Adolnasium, who is killed by conspirators and has his power shattered into 16 Shards. The conspirators take the Shards and travel to new worlds, populating them each with different types of magic.

The Stormlight Archive focuses on the world of Roshar and follows multiple characters as they fight against Voidbringers. It is planned to have ten novels, with five currently published.

The Mistborn series follows magicians who attempt to overthrow a dystopian empire. There are currently seven books published, with more planned.
