Apple TV+ has greenlit Cape Fear, a new series from creator Nick Antosca and Academy Award winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, with Javier Bardem attached to star.

The ten-episode series sees the lives of happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden change when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison. It is based on the novel The Executioners, which also inspired Gregory Peck’s 1962 feature of the same name and the 1991 remake from Scorcese.

Cape Fear is being produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television. Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, will executive produce, alongside Scorsese and Bardem. Antosca, who is writing showrunning the series, is executive producing with Alex Hudlund for Eat The Cat. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce with Spielberg for Amblin Television.

The series is developed and produced through Antosca’s overall deal at UCP, where he has been based since 2017. It marks the latest collaboration for Amblin Television and Apple TV+ following the success of Masters of the Air.
