AMC Networks has greenlit two new six-part series for 2023, Demascus and Invitation to a Bonfire.

Both series were developed as part of AMC’s scripts-to-series model, which opens writers’ rooms to develop prospective shows that, if successful, move straight to series. The series will debut on AMC+ and AMC next year.

Created by writer and playwright Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm (Boomerang), Demascus is a character-driven exploration of life as an ordinary Black man in America today. The series sees 33-year-old Demascus use innovative technology that allows him to experience different versions of his own life.

Demascus is executive produced by Mark Johnson’s Gran Via Productions (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad), with Kirk Moore (American Crime, For Life) serving as showrunner. Myki Bajaj of Gran Via is also a producer.

The psychological thriller Invitation to a Bonfire, based on the novel of the same name by Adrienne Celt, takes place in the 1930s at an all-girls boarding school in New Jersey. Inspired by Vladimir and Vera Nabokov’s co-dependent marriage, the series revolves around Zoya, a young Russian immigrant and groundskeeper caught in a lethal love triangle.

Invitation to a Bonfire is from creator and executive producer Rachel Caris Love (Physical, Blindspot), who also serves as showrunner. Robin Schwartz and Kyle Laursen are executive producers, with Carolyn Daucher also serving as producer.
