Preethi Mavahalli Opens ITV Studios-Backed Scripted Label

Preethi Mavahalli, currently creative director at Poison Pen Studios, is opening the new scripted label Paper Mill Productions, with the backing of ITV Studios.

“Almost my entire television career has been as part of ITV Studios, so it only felt natural to take this exciting and significant step as part of the family,” Mavahalli said. “I’m thrilled to launch this new venture and continue to collaborate with exceptional storytellers and creatives, Julian [Bellamy] and the wonderfully talented team at ITV Studios.”

During her time at Poison Pen, Mavahalli oversaw the development and production of the upcoming drama Adultery, written by Danny Brocklehurst, and the serial killer thriller The Dark, based on GR Halliday’s debut novel. Both series are set to launch on ITV later this year.

Mavahalli’s credits also include The Serpent, Noughts + Crosses, The City & The City, NW, The War of the Worlds, McDonald & Dodds, Tripped and Next of Kin.

Previously, Mavahalli worked as director of drama at Mammoth Screen. She also held roles at Sky Studios, Film4 and Film London.

Luke Woellhaf will move over from Poison Pen, where he served as director of development, as executive producer at Paper Mill Productions.

“ITV Studios has a long tradition of championing talented drama executives,” said Bellamny, managing director of ITV Studios. “I am delighted that the launch of Paper Mill Productions marks the next exciting phase of Preethi’s journey with us, creating a dedicated label for bold and impactful drama.”
