Channel 4 Greenlights Thriller Deadpoint

Channel 4 has greenlit the five-part thriller Deadpoint, created by debut writer Matt Hartley, from Clerkenwell Films (Baby Reindeer, The Ending of the F***ing World).

Michael Socha (The Gallows Pole), Christine Tremarco (Adolescence), Callum Scott-Howells (It’s a Sin) and Annes Elwy (Wolf) have been cast in the lead roles. BBC Studios is handling global distribution.

The series centers on a group of Welsh climbers who encounter a far-right faction plotting a violent act in their local mountains. After a tragic accident that leaves the local climbing community reeling, Aaron (Scott-Howells) blames himself and abandons his hometown to the fury of his sister (Elwy). When he returns a year later, he is forced to confront his new fear of climbing when his sister fails to return from a routine climb.

Aaron sets off in search of her, but is unaware that an extremist far-right group—the Justice Crusade, led by an unstable former soldier (Socha)—is on its own mission in the mountains. Meanwhile, senior detective Natasha Evermore (Tremarco) makes her own way to the Welsh mountains, having followed the Justice Crusade for some time and growing increasingly concerned by their activity.

Marco Kreuzpaintner (The Lazarus Project, Bodies, Those About to Die), is the lead director of the series, with further episodes directed by Laura Scrivano (The Lazarus Project, Wedding Season, Alice).

The ensemble cast features Gary Lewis (Franklin, A Thousand Blows), John Bradley (Game of Thrones, 3 Body Problem), Sam Keeley (Kin, Task), Martin McCann (Blue Lights, Hostage), Fflyn Edwards (The Crown, Come and Find Me) Emily Stott (Foundation, Riot Women), Ellora Torchia (Midsommar, House of the Dragon), Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Great), Michael Jibson (No Return, Bodies), Crystal Condie (Dear England, The Lovebox in Your Living Room), Siôn Alun Davies (Hidden, Steeltown Murders), Oliver Finnegan (The Watchers, Outlander), Rhodri Meilir (In My Skin, Tree on a Hill/Pren ar y Bryn) and Arthur Hughes (Shardlake, The Jetty).

Deadpoint is produced with the support of the Welsh government via Creative Wales and in association with BBC Studios, which is handling global sales.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be making Deadpoint with C4, BBC Studios and Creative Wales,” said Andy Baker, executive producer for Clerkenwell Films. “Matt’s created a gripping thriller with a depth and complexity that speaks to our very divided times, and we have a brilliant pair of directors, a fantastic crew and a truly amazing cast bringing it to life.”

Gwawr Lloyd, interim head of drama at Channel 4, commented, “Deadpoint is a bold and incredibly tense thriller that places characters and their journeys at the heart of high-stakes action. Matt Hartley’s debut script is as gripping as it gets and all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Eryri mountain range. We’re delighted to be working with Clerkenwell Films and the brilliant cast and crew; this series promises to be as thought-provoking as it is pulse-raising.”
